Instagram 'Favorites' may be a new feature for private picture sharing

Instagram 'Favorites' may be a new feature for private picture sharing | TechRadar

Though Instagram is a number-one destination for sharing your latest pictures with the world, there are times when you prefer to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-bH7dZ-o2Y not give your latest pic to a massive audience of strangers.

To that end, Instagram is testing out a "Favorites" feature allowing users to share pictures that are only visible to a smaller, pre-selected group of followers, according to The Verge.

Previously, Instagram users would get around separating fully public posts from friends-only posts http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/topics/remodeling by simply operating two separate accounts -- one of which could be seen only to approved followers.

With this new feature, Instagram hopes to do away with the need for a second private account, giving users expanded options over who all can see their latest snap.

Fav photos

Once launched, you won't know if you're on a friend's special list unless you see one of their select posts at the top of your feed, indicated by a green Favorites https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-bH7dZ-o2Y badge.

Of course, Instagram isn't the first social media network to instill a similar "inner circle" for posts. Facebook, which owns Instagram, offers multiple controls that edit who can see what you post -- be it an image, link, or status.

Snapchat, which closer competes with Instagram's photo-sharing antics, allows you to choose individual recipients for each picture you take (which then disappears after viewing) since day one.

Instagram is reportedly testing out Favorites with a small number of users with plans to roll it out widely over the coming months. In the meantime, feel free to consult our guide to making the most out of the filter-focused photography app.

Time Warner inks $100M deal with Snapchat to win back millennials

Time Warner inks $100M Sprinkler System Denton deal with Snapchat to win back millennials

Time Warner today announced it will provide content for Snap in an advertising and content mash-up worth $100 million. The deal involves a two-year agreement that will have Time Warner using its Turner, Warner Bros, and HBO brands to provide short pieces of original programming for the Snapchat messaging service.

It's unclear if we'll be seeing Aquaman or Jon Snow in original content pieces - though Time Warner did say they plan on airing three shows on the service per day by the end of the year. Snapchat already has on-demand content in the form of short, 5-minute episodes.

The move comes on the heels of increasing reports that millennials aren't watching content via traditional methods. Time Warner will now be able to advertise their movies and TV shows on Snapchat, which puts the media giant in reach of cord-cutters who may not be aware of new content.

It looks like a win-win; Snap gets the networks behind some of the top names in TV and movies http://www.reinhartlandscaping.com/ and Time Warner gets to reach a demographic that's been pulling away. I expect we will see a plethora of new filters added to support the new Time Warner programming - as we did with the Wonder Woman prom otion. Let's just hope this deal is a better combination than Batman Vs Superman.

This $250 wifi sprinkler can cut lawn water use 30%

Rachio, a Denver-based start-up, has been selling a "smart sprinkler" for the last year. The device takes the place of a traditional control box on an automated home sprinkler system. It hooks the system up to the Internet -- meaning that you can control it from a smartphone.

It also means the sprinkler system can now check the weather. If it's going to rain or has rained recently, the system holds off on watering. It also automatically adjusts the watering times for each season. And it waters intermittently to allow for maximum absorption -- which also encourages the grass to grow deeper roots and become more drought-resistant. These things alone can cut lawn water use by 30%, according to the company -- no small amount when at least eight Western states are in extreme drought, or worse.

Related: Can these gates protect NYC from th e next flood?

The company was formed after Chris Klein and Franz Garsombke -- two software engineers working for a real estate intelligence firm -- went through the last drought in Colorado in 2012. When fall came and the dryness subsided, the two noticed that sprinklers in the area were still running, even though it was raining.

"We Sprinkler Installation figured there had to be a better way," said Klein.

So the pair started writing code and entered a contest run by the Colorado Innovation Network -- a consortium of businesses, governments and universities that promotes economic development in the state. They won $50,000, quit their jobs, and began building the company. Now they have 18 employees, and sales are on track to quadruple from last year, although Klein would not disclose revenue numbers or units sold.

RachioThe hardware mounts in your home, the software is accessible online.

The device itself looks like a router, and Klein said most people can install it in 20 minutes. (If you still can't, most likely a gardener or electrician can.)

The entire thing -- plastic, electronics, packaging -- is made in Colorado. Klein said it http://www.desertclassiclandscaping.com/ would probably be cheaper to make it abroad, but the company is convinced that U.S. manufacturing costs will fall as more companies decide to build stuff here -- and they want to be part of the force driving that change.

It's compatible with Nest and other smart home systems, and many areas experiencing drought -- including Los Sprinkler Installation Angeles, Fresno and the Santa Clara Valley -- subsidize the $250 retail price, said Klein. < br>
Of course California is the most populous state seeing a historic drought, and Klein said roughly a third of his sales are in that state, up from about a quarter last year.

Rachio isn't the only company to make these devices -- competitors include Blossom and Skydrop.

Financial stocks led all sectors in trading volume, and the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSEMKT:XLF) beat the broader market with a 0.8% increase. A decline in gold prices, meanwhile, helped push the VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSEMKT:GDX) down 2.3%.

As for individual stocks, Bunge (NYSE:BG) and AutoZone (NYSE:AZO) saw heavy trading following market-moving news.

Bunge is a takeover candidate

Bunge shares shot up nearly 17% after the company was identified as an acquisition candidate. The grain and oilseed trader has been approached by commodities giant Glencore for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx5hfLp3Vqc a buyout, according to The Wall Street Journal. No pricing was listed in the report, which noted that a merger would quickly grant Glencore a major presence in the U.S. agriculture market.

As for Bunge, a buyout could take pressure off its agribusiness segment to quickly return to profit growth. That division is suffering from a chronic lack of product lately, especially grains, as farmers hold on to inventory in response to weak commodity prices.

"The slow pace of farmer selling in So uth America compressed margins in Agribusiness and led to a lower than expected first quarter," CEO Soren Schroder told investors in early May after the company posted a sharp dive in net income as its grain business shrank to $17 million from $144 million in the prior-year period.

Schroder and his team still think Bunge will rebound to show growth for the full year because farms are reaching their holding capacities even as producers have generated record bean and corn crops that have yet to hit the market. That optimistic outlook will likely give the company leverage to seek a significant premium in any negotiations with merger candidates.

AutoZone takes a step backwards

AutoZone was the single worst performer in the S&P 500 today. Shares of the auto parts retailer fell almost 12% after the company announced surprisingly weak fiscal third-quarter results showing comparable-store sales growth decelerating for the second straight quarter. Comps shrank 0.8% compa red to the prior quarter's flat result.

Thanks to the revenue pressure, AutoZone's earnings expanded by 6.2% to mark only the second time in 11 years in which earnings per share didn't rise by double digits. Management wasn't thrilled with that result. "Our sales performance for the first five weeks of our quarter was significantly below our expectations," CEO Bill Rhodes said in a press release, and mentioned that the quarter's earliest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx5hfLp3Vqc days were impacte d by delays in IRS tax refunds. "The last seven weeks of sales demonstrated improvement, but not enough to make http://www.careerbuilder.com/jobs-attorney up for our soft start," he added.

With comps basically flat over the past nine months, compared to a 3% boost in the prior-year period, AutoZone's stellar growth streak is at risk of stalling this year. Some of that slump can be pinned on things outside of management's control, like weak industry dynamics and the tax refund delays.

Yet the business is also facing spiking competition from online-focused rivals, which presents a different type of challenge. AutoZone's e-commerce segment makes up a small portion of its operations, and that channel isn't showing robust growth right now, which means it may be losing ground to online specialists.

Workhorse W-15 electric pickup looks to take on Tesla and Ford

Tesla plans to build an electric pickup a few years from now, while Ford will start selling a hybrid F-150 in 2020.

They'll both have competition when they do.

Commercial truckmaker Workhorse has unveiled a plug-in hybrid pickup that goes on sale in late 2018. The company currently specializes in hybrid and electric step vans, but built an all-new custom chassis for its first pickup offering, the W-15, which has a sci fi movie-style composite and carbon fiber body riding on a traditional steel frame.

Between the rails is a powertrain comprised of a 45 kilowatt battery pack with Panasonic cells that drives a BorgWarner electric motor at each axle to create a combined 460 hp all-wheel-drive system. The full-size crew cab can tow up to 5,000 pounds and carry a 2,200-pound payload capacity, both roughly comparable to a strong V6 truck. An outlet built into the bedside can provide on site power for tools directly from the battery.

The electric range is 80 miles per four- to five-hour charge, but there's also a gasoline engine onboard that works as a generator for longer trips. Workhorse's hybrid vans, which are typically used for local routes, have a two-cylinder BMW engine for this purpose, but company CEO Steve Burns says the pickup will feature a more robust three-cylinder so it's not compromised during highway driving. He hasn't yet announced what brand is supplying the engine, but BMW makes a three-cylinder that could be up to the task, as does Ford.

Much like a dual motor Tesla Model X SUV, Burns expects the instant electric torque and traction to make it one of the quickest trucks around, with a 0-60 mph time under 5.5 seconds. The low center of gravity provided by the batteries and its four-wheel independent suspension also promise relatively excellent handling, according to Burns.

TOYOTA'S ELECTRIC SEMI IS QUICK AS L IGHTNING:

The truck's clean, modern interior design includes a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen on the dashboard that handles most functions and reduces the number of buttons and knobs on the dashboard and steering wheel to just five. The orange trim of the show truck may be toned down for the production version.

The lack of a large internal combustion engine means there's space for a large front trunk, along with a substantial crumple zone that should help it perform well on federal crash tests. Only one trim level will be offered and come standard with automatic emergency braking and lane keeping assist systems for $52,500.

NIKOLA HYDROGEN-POWERED SEMI REVEALED

Workhorse is primarily targeting commercial customers and already has 2,000 pre-orders, but Burns says consumer sales are possible in the future once a large enough distribution and service network is in place. The company's Loveland, Ohio, factory has the capacity to build up Electrician Service to 60,000 trucks annually, and it will be marketing the trucks through a partnership with Ryder.

With a MPG equivalent of 75 mpg in electric mode, and a Electrician Service combined fuel economy rating of around 30 mpg when the engine is running, Burns says the operational savings over seven to eight years, plus the available green car taxi incentives, should more than offset the added cost over a conventional pickup for http://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/electrician many fleet buyers.

Lawns - Avocados, kittens and lawns: consequences of the California drought crisis - Pictures

Thanks to the drought, there are more rattlesnakes around than usual. And to Sprinkler System Mckinney make matters worse, they're now snaking their way into residential neighborhoods and California backyards where small children play.

A 2-year-old girl, named Ishneed Kaur, was bitten by a rattlesnake, June 9, 2015, while playing in her backyard in Pittsburg, California. She had to be airlifted to Children's http://www.se ars.com/lawn-garden-watering-hoses-sprinklers/b-1024014 Hospital in Oakland for immediate treatment.

That same week, a 4-year-old boy was bitten after stepping on a baby rattlesnake coiled on a bike trail in Folsom, California.
